Transport basics in London
Oyster, contactless, zones, buses, and planning journeys — the essentials for getting around.
Paying for travel
Use contactless bank cards or mobile wallets, or an Oyster card, for Tube, DLR, most National Rail services in London, and buses. Daily and weekly caps can limit what you pay — check current caps on TfL.
Zones
Fares depend on zones. Central London is mostly zone 1; outer areas extend to higher zones. When you move, check which zone your station is in for season tickets.
Buses
Flat fares apply on London buses; you must tap in (and on some routes tap out). No cash on board.
