About Forty Hill
Forty Hill is one of Enfield’s most historic and scenic areas, located north of Enfield Town and close to Bulls Cross, Clay Hill and the Lee Valley. It is known for heritage buildings, open green spaces, quiet lanes, countryside atmosphere and the important Forty Hall Estate. Forty Hall is the area’s defining landmark, a beautiful historic house set within landscaped gardens, parkland, lakes and walking routes. The estate offers exhibitions, events, woodland, meadows and heritage interpretation, making it one of Enfield’s most attractive visitor destinations. Nearby Myddelton House Gardens adds further horticultural and historical interest. The wider Forty Hill area has a village-like feel, with older houses, pubs, churches, farms, open land and residential pockets. It feels much more rural than many parts of North London, while still being close to Enfield Town for shops, restaurants and transport. Transport is mainly by bus and road, with rail access from Enfield Town, Gordon Hill or Turkey Street depending on location. The area is popular with walkers, families and visitors seeking a quieter landscape. Forty Hill is historic, green and peaceful, ideal for heritage visits, garden walks, countryside-style scenery and discovering Enfield’s rural northern character.
