Southwark

Southwark is an Inner South London borough running along the south bank of the Thames from London Bridge and Bermondsey in the east to Elephant & Castle, Peckham, and Dulwich in the south and west. It combines some of London's most central and expensive real estate — in Borough and London Bridge — with some of its most creatively vibrant neighbourhoods in Peckham and Nunhead, and its most established leafy residential streets in Dulwich and Herne Hill. Transport is comprehensive. London Bridge is one of London's busiest stations, served by the Jubilee and Northern lines, and numerous National Rail services. Elephant & Castle connects the Bakerloo and Northern lines. Canada Water is on the Jubilee and Overground. Peckham Rye and Queen's Road Peckham are on the Overground. The East London line has transformed connectivity through Peckham, Nunhead, and Brockley. Rental prices range considerably. In Borough and Bermondsey, one-bedroom flats typically rent for £2,200 to £2,800 per month. Peckham and Nunhead are lower — around £1,700 to £2,100 — while Dulwich and Herne Hill command £1,900 to £2,500 for similar properties. East Dulwich has a particularly strong local following. Southwark's cultural offer is exceptional: Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe, the Shard, Borough Market, the Southbank Centre, and Maltby Street Market all sit within the borough's boundaries. Borough Market is one of the world's finest food markets, operating Thursday through Saturday with an additional limited Monday market. Dulwich Picture Gallery — the world's first purpose-built public art gallery — anchors the southern residential area. Burgess Park in Peckham provides 140 acres of open space. Southwark is a borough of genuine variety: you can live 10 minutes from London Bridge in a converted warehouse, or in a Victorian terrace in Dulwich that feels almost suburban. It is one of the most dynamic and interesting boroughs in Inner South London.
