Hammersmith and Fulham is a compact Inner West London borough stretching along the north bank of the Thames between Chiswick to the west and Chelsea to the east. It combines excellent transport connections, riverside amenity, and a strong mix of residential neighbourhoods — from the urban busyness of Hammersmith Broadway to the quieter streets of Fulham and Parsons Green. Transport is a genuine strength. The District and Piccadilly lines both serve Hammersmith, offering fast access to central London and Heathrow. The District line also serves Parsons Green, Fulham Broadway, and Putney Bridge. Shepherd's Bush is served by the Central line and the London Overground at Shepherd's Bush Market. Most parts of the borough are within 20 minutes of central London. Rental prices are high and competitive with nearby Chelsea and Kensington. A one-bedroom flat in Fulham or Hammersmith typically rents for £1,900 to £2,500 per month. Two-bedroom flats in sought-after streets near the Thames can exceed £3,500. The purchase market reflects the same premium — two-bedroom flats frequently start at £600,000 and family houses rarely appear below £900,000. Fulham remains particularly popular with young professionals and families. Parsons Green and New King's Road provide a strong independent restaurant and retail offer, with a notably convivial atmosphere on summer evenings. Hammersmith itself is a major transport interchange but also has a respected arts venue in the Lyric Theatre. The Thames Path runs through the borough, and the riverside at Chiswick Mall and Hammersmith offers attractive walking and cycling routes. Fulham Palace — the former residence of the Bishops of London — provides a free museum and substantial grounds. Craven Cottage, home of Fulham FC, sits directly on the riverbank.
