Ealing is a large and varied borough in West London, often referred to as the Queen of the Suburbs — a title that speaks to its combination of good transport, established residential streets, and a broad range of amenities. It spans from the urban density of Southall and Hanwell in the west to the more affluent streets of Ealing Broadway and Chiswick adjacent areas in the east. Transport is a major strength. The Elizabeth line runs through Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Hanwell, Southall, and Hayes & Harlington, connecting directly to Paddington in under 10 minutes and to the City in around 25 minutes. The Central line serves Ealing Broadway and North Ealing, while the District line runs through the same interchange. This combination of Elizabeth line and Underground access makes commuting to almost any part of central London straightforward. Rental prices reflect the borough's desirability. In Ealing Broadway and South Ealing, one-bedroom flats typically rent for £1,600 to £2,000 per month. Southall and Hanwell offer considerably lower rents — around £1,200 to £1,500 — while maintaining good Elizabeth line connectivity. Two-bedroom homes in the middle of the market sit between £1,800 and £2,400. Ealing Broadway provides a strong retail core with good dining and independent shops alongside major chains. Northfields and Pitshanger Lane are popular neighbourhood high streets with a loyal local following. The borough contains several large parks, including Walpole Park and Ealing Common, and has good access to the Grand Union Canal towpath. Ealing has a significant South Asian community, particularly in Southall, where the retail, restaurant, and market offer is exceptional. The borough is popular with young professionals and families, and property values have risen meaningfully since Elizabeth line services began.
