Hillingdon
Hillingdon is the westernmost London borough, sharing a boundary with Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. It is notable for containing Heathrow Airport — the UK's largest airport and a major employer — which makes it a practical base for those working in aviation, logistics, or related industries. Away from the airport, the borough ranges from the urban transport hub of Uxbridge to the quieter residential streets of Ruislip, Northwood, and Ickenham. The Metropolitan, Piccadilly, and Central lines all operate within the borough. Uxbridge is the terminus of both the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines, with journey times to central London around 40 to 50 minutes. Ruislip, Ruislip Manor, and Ruislip Gardens offer slightly shorter connections. West Drayton and Hayes & Harlington on the Elizabeth line deliver fast connections to Paddington in under 20 minutes. Rental prices reflect the borough's outer location and varied character. In Uxbridge and Hayes, one-bedroom flats typically rent for £1,200 to £1,500 per month. Northwood and Ruislip — more established residential areas with a suburban feel — see one-bedroom properties renting for £1,400 to £1,700. Family houses in Ickenham or West Ruislip range from £1,800 to £2,500 depending on size. Hillingdon is known for its green space. The Grand Union Canal passes through the borough, and the Colne Valley Regional Park covers a large western swathe with rivers, lakes, and woodland. Ruislip Lido is a notable local attraction — an unusual freshwater beach with a miniature railway within Greater London. The borough has a strong school offer in its northern areas and an improving one further south. For those tolerant of Heathrow's flight paths, the western parts of the borough can offer exceptional value and a quality of residential environment rarely matched at comparable London prices.
